Excellence in Large Project Engineering

For production and exploration companies, large projects often require more areas of expertise than their normal engineering staff possesses. Bringing in a consultant to guide through the processes and disciplines, obtain and manage the various experts needed for both compliance and innovation while managing both scope and quality are what senior consultants can provide.

Profit is more than just capital cost-control; it is about long-term return on investment (ROI). This is when experts providing both innovative and compliant designs, correct material selection, and construction management can improve ROI dramatically. I have seen many so-called “Cadillac” systems outperform low-cost systems in the same fields when ROI was compared. This included improved safety, reduced maintenance, and longer well life.

Results of outside experts include improved employee morale, as they can focus on their normal areas of responsibility, while getting improvements and suggestions from outside experts for a while as the projects are completed.

Consider hiring an outside expert for your next development project to work with your team. It could have big returns in profit and employee retainment.

  • I welcome your questions. Each client has their own individual requirements and goals. Many differ in how they define success, so this must be taken into account as a customer-defined scope. When the layout proposal is justified, it must meet these defined scope conditions–or improve them based on the goals of the client. As an example, I have seen quite a bit of variation in what is identified as capital budget. Some clients stop the capital budget and start the operational budget as soon as production begins. Other clients have delayed this for several weeks to include the flowback period for each well in planned capital costs. This also may vary if different investors are involved in different parts of the project. These conditions may impact what are the best engineering choices for various aspects of each project.
