Those of us who have lived close to the land understand we are here for only a little while.  We work hard to minimize our impact and keep our environment clean and those who live on the land protected from any harm from our presence.

These steps include:

  • Obeying the engineering codes.  These are “lessons learned in blood”, and critical to keeping both people and the environment safe.
  • Insuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Working with landowners and stakeholders to minimize any impact on the land–and keep what impact we do have as restorable.
  • Designing robust facilities that are safe to build, operate, and maintain that have minimal or no emissions.
  • Using appropriate materials in each part of our facilities and pipelines that are designed for long life, corrosion resistance, and not subject to environmental hazards.
  • Setting up facilities and pipelines for regular inspections to prevent any failures, and including those inspections and prevention measures in the training of operators.
  • Working with the land itself to reduce erosion, including planned drainage features and planting adequate natural plants to hold soils, clean the water, and promote both agriculture and wildlife as appropriate.  This often includes consulting with county agriculture experts on what to plant as well as how and when to plant it.
